A small mountain resort famous all over the world for its citrus fruit and for the quality of life. It is the town of Limone sul Garda, in the province of Brescia, a territory famous for the precious citrus cultivated in these terraced areas but also for the extraordinary longevity of the population: a dozen citizens have in fact exceeded 100 years (about a thousand of total inhabitants). Once the historic fortress of the Republic of Venice, since the fifteenth century the production of lemon groves has begun, exploiting the mild climate during almost all seasons. And thanks to the commercial influence of Venice, in a short time the citrus fruits of Limone such as citron, orange and lemon have been exported to every corner of the country and making the city the most productive citrus area in the whole of northern Europe. Goethe wrote about Limone sul Garda in his "Journey to Italy": "The morning was magnificent, a little cloudy, but, at sunset, calm. We passed in front of Limone, with its terraced gardens up the slope of the mountains; a spectacle of wealth and grace ".

How to reach Limone sul Garda

The city of Limone sul Garda is well connected to the main towns of the province and is easily reachable by car from the municipalities of Milan, Brescia and Desenzano del Garda.

Car

To reach Limone sul Garda, take the A4 motorway to the Desenzano del Garda exit. Alternatively, exit at Brescia est, continue in the direction of Salò, exit at Riva del Garda.

Train

The city of Limone sul Garda does not have a city train station. Therefore, there are no direct connections with the cities of Milan, Brescia and Desenzano del Garda. The nearest station is in Rovereto, in Trentino Alto-Adige (about 30 km from Livigno), but it is preferable to the Desenzano del Garda-Sirmione station which provides more connections both regional and Frecciabianca of Trenitalia with the main localities of the region .

Bus

The S202 line of the Autolinee SIA company connects the city of Brescia to the city of Limone sul Garda every day (travel time approximately 90 minutes). Alternatively, from Brescia it is necessary to reach the municipality of Gargnano: from here there are several daily trips to the center of Limone.
