Unesco city heritage since 2008, the city of Sabbioneta, in the Lombardy region, is located about 30 km from the capital of Mantua. A flourishing residence of the Gonzagas, like the nearby town of Casalmaggiore, Sabbioneta fascinates visitors through the streets and cultivated fields that recall the landscapes of nearby Emilia Romagna. Arrived in the city it will be possible to appreciate the walls and the defensive structures that refer to the ancient city-fortress as it was considered for centuries the city of Sabbioneta. And the imprint of the noble Gonzaga dynasty is still present in the city: from the geometric cut of the streets to the aesthetics of the facades of the palaces, such as Palazzo Giardino and the Galleria degli Antichi (Corridor Grande). The glorious Gonzaga family is also responsible for the construction of the small neoclassical synagogue and the magnificent Teatro all'Antica. Do not miss a visit to the Doge's Palace, also called "Palazzo Grande", which for decades was the residence of the Sabbioneta family and later transformed into a representative building of the city. The Church of the Beata Vergine Incoronata is also worth a visit, famous for being the burial place of Vespasiano Gonzaga but also the Teatro all'Antica, a modern theater project built in 1588.
The town of Sabbioneta is well connected to the main towns of the province and is easily reachable by car from the towns of Mantua and Cremona.
