City of Voghera

Pretty and charming town in the heart of the Oltrepò, when Voghera is mentioned, the thought moves quickly towards the imaginary housewife of the province, as represented in numerous journalistic images. The Lombard town of Voghera offers the visitor a suggestive historical center in which stands the historic Duomo, rebuilt in the seventeenth second, which houses inside, inside the sacred reliquary, a thorn from the crown of Christ. The Cathedral is dedicated to the Ascension and every year in conjunction with the religious festivity (between the months of May and June), the relic is taken down from the ceiling and shown to the faithful in procession. Not far from Piazza del Duomo stands the Church of Sant'Ilario and San Giorgio, which has become, after years of neglect and abandonment, the sacred temple of the Cavalry of the Italian army. From the narrow streets of the historic center it is also possible to reach the Visconteo Castle, a historic medieval fortress, which was one of the places of residence of the historic Lombard noble family.
