Mondello, a seaside village in the city of Palermo, is the seaside resort par excellence of the Sicilian capital, appreciated every year by thousands of citizens and tourists who decide to spend a day in the waves, the beach and the water games. Just 11 km from the historic center of Palermo, the Gulf of Mondello, enclosed between Monte Gallo and Monte Pellegrino (the promontory that dominates the capital and from which stands the famous Castle Utveggio), was once a real swamp "mud" (hence the name "al mondellu", ie swamp) but today, instead, it represents one of the most evocative places in the city. Appreciated since the 1800s, Mondello soon became the place of residence of the Palermitan nobility and retains its unmistakable Liberty style that adorns the imposing villas that surround the village. But Mondello enchants above all for the golden beach. The beach of Mondello is considered, in fact, among the most beautiful of the island and definitely deserves a dip in the cobalt blue color during the course of the year.

How to reach Mondello

By plane

The village of Mondello is just 21 km from the airport "Falcone e Borsellino" of Palermo-Punta Raisi. From Palermo airport to Mondello, by car, you can book a transfer service that will pick you up at the arrivals and leave you at the address you want, on our portal you will find the best drivers in the area. By bus, from Palermo airport are not provided direct connections to the village of Mondello. For this reason, the fastest and safest route remains the rental service with driver (NCC) or Taxi. By car

The fraction of Mondello, the "beach of the Palermitani", is in fact just 11 km from the historic center and is easily accessible from the Parco della Favorita which leads directly into Viale Regina Elena (Mondello waterfront). For those who come from the A29 motorway (Palermo - Mazara del Vallo), exit Mondello-Tommaso Natale, proceed until Viale dell'Olimpo and then continue towards Mondello dalla Favorita (Viale Margherita di Savoia - Viale Regina Elena).

By ship or ferry

The village of Mondello has a small port and is therefore not allowed to dock large ships and / or ferries. To reach the town of Mondello "by sea" is therefore necessary to disembark in the port of Palermo (about 10 km), connected directly to the cities of Cagliari, Genoa, Naples, Salerno, Livorno, Civitavecchia and Tunis. In fact, since at least twenty years, the Gulf of Mondello is the venue of the World Festival On The Beach, an international sporting event that involves thousands of enthusiasts from all over the world and celebrating sharing and sport. During the course of the event, which usually takes place between the end of spring and the first summer days, many are competitions among athletes, mainly in the disciplines of sailing, windsurfing and swimming. But during the days of the Festival, entertainment is assured not only at the beach. The seafront of Mondello is the square of the same name, the heart of the village, "dresses up" for a party, and during the evening hours there are numerous initiatives including songs, dances and shows dedicated to adults and children.
